How do I become a Volunteer?

At UMF, we plug people in where they are passionate and gifted. Due to the sensitive nature of our work, prospective volunteers must complete the following steps in order to get cleared to become an official volunteer. Once you become a cleared volunteer, you will receive the next steps for training on the specific area you're interested in. Complete ALL of the below items in their entirety.

2.  Submit Background Check

3.  Complete Orientation

4.   Sign the Release Waiver and Non-disclosure Agreement  

5.  Non-discrimination Agreement


CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

Graphic Design/Social Media Intern

Job Type: Intern / Volunteer, unpaid


We  are currently looking for a dynamic and self driven Intern.  Work at your own pace with at least 10 hours/week to create and help design brochures, web and social media content. 


- Experience in graphic design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required

- Extensive knowledge in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms required



FUNDRAISING TEAM

Job Type: Intern / Volunteer, unpaid


As a charity fundraiser, you should build relationships and explore new fundraising opportunities from various sources.  You'll need to be able to network, since success in the role depends heavily on being able to forge positive relationships with supporters. Another area of your role will be to raise awareness of the charity's work, aims and goals.


What to expect, but not required:

  • motivate and facilitate supporters to maximize the funds they raise
  • inspire new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters
  • organize traditional activities, such as sponsored outdoor events and collections of donated goods and funds
  • develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organizing events
  • raise awareness of the charity and its work at local and national levels, e.g. giving talks to groups or seeking photo opportunities with the media
  • develop and coordinate web-based fundraising, online auctions and merchandise sales
  • increase funds by researching and targeting charitable trusts whose criteria match the charity's aims and activities
  • develop and implement a strategy for individual and corporate supporter recruitment and development
  • recruit, organize and manage volunteers to carry out various functions within the charity
  • oversee corporate fundraising, including employee giving and matched giving from employers
  • manage and update databases to record donor contact and preference information
  • make risk analysis and balancing time-cost ratios to focus effort on the fundraising activities that are most appropriate and will have the highest chance of success.



EVENTS TEAM

Job Type: Intern / Volunteer, unpaid


As an Event Team Member you will be under the direction of the Fundraising Team.  You will help set up and run booths at events scheduled by the Fundraising Team.


What to expect but not required:

  • Come up with game/carnival game ideas
  • Create a fun and inviting atmosphere at events
  • Promote UMF Gear/Swag


We often have other internship opportunities open up. All are unpaid. If  you are interested in an internship opportunity please email a formal  cover letter, resume and at least two letters of reference (non-family)  to volunteer@umf.life. You should include any internship  specifics such as required hours, supervision, etc. We cannot provide  licensed supervision hours for social work or counseling practicum  students. Internships typically do not involve personal interaction with victims/survivors.
